I installed RecommendFriends tonight on my site (
http://www.spanglemagazine.com), and it's working fine.
However, the Captcha security system is not working. When I have it turned on, it tells me that the security code is incorrectly entered on the frontend, even when it has been correctly entered.
I've turned it off right now so the module will work, but I would like to have this option to prevent spamming.
Thanks.

Hi lakewood,
Hmmmm. Another new challenge. So I take it that the security code image is actually displaying - it just won't 'accept' the code entered? The only problems I've heard so far with the Captcha is that the image itself won't display - this is a new one on me!
Could you possibly enable the Captcha in the Component (temporarily) so I can have a look at it on your site? I may be able to figure something out for you.
Thanks!
D-Mack
P.S. Very nice site by the way!!
Hi,
I am having the exact same problem as lakewood. I too have turned the captcha off until I can resolve the problem. If you want to have a look, send me a message and I'll turn it back on.
Thanks.

By the way, this is a really nice component.
I'm sorry but I can't really help out unless I can view your sites with the captcha system turned on. I need to view the source of the page and see what variables are shown for the captcah image part.
Thanks,
D-Mack
I am also getting the "invalid Security Code" error even though I am certain I am entering it properly. I'm leaving it enabled in case you get a chance to go by and look. thanks.
edit: the link is towards the bottom of the left menu, just below contact and complaints.
edit 2 (about 12 hours later): I have no idea why it is now working, but it is. strange. I had of course done a check-in and cache clear and purge before but now suddenly I see it is working this morning. I'm happy, but confused, lol.
Hi All,
I have just discovered something interesting (weird?).
Billandre sent me a link to his site and I tested the captcha and it did not work in Internet Explorer 8. I then tried it in Firefox and it worked! Which lead me to believe it was a browser issue.
I did some Googling and found some info on PHP sessions and cookies. The captcha system for RecommendFriends uses sessions (and cookies) for the security code.
I went into IE8 Tools->Internet Options->Privacy->Advanced and made the following changes:
- Override automatic cookie handling - checked
- First party cookies - allow
- Third party cookies - block
- Always allow session cookies - checked
Closed Internet Explorer and then restarted it.
I then re-tested Billandre's site in IE8 and low and behold the security code worked!!
**Admin Edit**
I also just realized that for some reason the above 'fix' will only work on the first attempt to enter the security code. On Billandre's site, I can only successfully enter the proper security code once - next attempt I get the error again. If I clear out ther browser cache and all cookies, I can then enter the new code properly again.
**End Admin Edit**
I believe it has to to do with the 'allow session cookies' settings in IE. The settings above should also work for IE7.
Please test the possible solution above and let me know your findings. I don't know yet if there is anything I can do to resolve this, but your testing might help.
Thanks,
D-Mack
P.S. A few other things to check and try out in your Joomla! Admin:
Go to Site->Global Configuration->System
- Under Cache Settings, set Cach to 'No' and then Save
- Re-test the captcha security code on your site
Go to Help->Information->PHP Settings
- check if Session Save Path is set correctly
- make sure Registered Globals are off
- make sure Safe Mode is set to off
Go to Site->Global Configuration->System
- check the session settings - make sure the lifetime isn't set too short (at least 15 minutes?)
Again, please let everyone know what you discover!

I am aswell accepting the "invalid Security Code" absurdity even admitting I am assertive acclimated the apprenticeship properly. What do you anticipate guys is the accessible band-aid of this problem.
